Position: Dispatcher

Job purpose


The Dispatcher is responsible for the scheduling and dispatch of drivers and buses to fulfil charter sales orders. The Dispatcher is also responsible for a variety of compliance and reporting functions, information management, insurance and permit updates and upgrades. This role also includes providing support in a fast paced, high call volume office environment and will assist in completing operations and data entry tasks as necessary in a timely and accurate manner.

Duties and responsibilities


Dispatch:

  • Dispatch vehicles and drivers for charters
  • Prepare and print driver paperwork
  • Adhere to driver policies and procedures
  • Adhere to drivers collective bargaining agreement
  • Coordinate with accounting department to ensure accuracy of drivers’ hours
  • Accurately forecast and plan multi-day trips
  • Sound knowledge of Vancouver Island
  • Be on rotation for after-hours phone for emergencies
  • Perform other duties as required

Compliance:

  • Ensure there is compliance with the National Safety Code and hours of work
  • Review drivers’ logs
  • Oversee all multi-day trips for compliance and subcontract out work as required
  • File documentation accurately in preparation for audits
  • Maintain compliant record keeping and information management
  • Have knowledge of the National Safety Code hours’ regulations for Canada and the United States
  • Upgrade insurance as needed for trips past 160 km, or off Island, or the United States
  • Purchase permits for buses for emergencies
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications


  • High school diploma
  • Transportation industry knowledge and experience an asset
  • Ability to deal with people diplomatically and professionally
  • Able to work well under pressure
  • Flexible and easily adapt to change
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Very organized with excellent multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in customer service and collaborating with co-workers and internal customers
  • Advanced computer skills an asset – Outlook, Excel, Word

Compensation for this position would be based on experience
